Why a Stump-Grinding-Only Business Beats a Tree Service

Most stump grinding in Clark County is done by tree services with a grinder bolted onto a tree-removal operation. Here’s why that’s usually the wrong choice when stump grinding is what you actually need.

Stumps don’t get bumped

Tree services schedule stump grinding around tree removals. When a felling job runs long — and they always do — your stump waits. With us, stumps are the only thing on the schedule. Same-week means same-week, not “we’ll fit you in if the crew gets back in time.”

The right machine, not the only machine

Tree services often own one small grinder for occasional stump work — usually a wheeled walk-behind bought a decade ago. We run the tracked Bandit SG-75 because it’s built for this: 27-inch cutter wheel, 80-inch swing, 23 inches of depth, and tracks that are easy on soft Pacific Northwest lawns.

You talk to the operator

The person quoting your job is the person who does it. No dispatcher, no salesperson working off a photo someone else took, no game of telephone between the estimate and the machine.

We’re judged on the grind, not the day’s tree count

A tree crew’s stump grind is the last twenty minutes of a long day. It’s our whole job. That shows up in grind depth, in how the chips get spread, and in whether the work area looks finished when we leave.

Honest Pricing, Published

Most stump grinders won’t tell you what anything costs until they’re standing in your yard. We publish it.

$150 minimum. Most residential jobs land between $150 and $500. Three or more stumps in one visit gets 10% off the combined grinding cost. Same rate across the service area — no surcharge for one town over another.

Common Questions

How fast can you actually get out here?

Most jobs go on the schedule the same week. Stumps are the only work we do, so nothing bumps them.

Do I need to be home?

We’d like you there at completion so we can walk the work area together and you can pay before we leave. If you can’t be, authorize a card on file when you accept the quote and we’ll text you the receipt and photos when it’s done.

What happens to the wood chips?

They stay on site by default — spread and leveled across the depression as natural mulch, not left in a pile. Haul-away is available as an add-on if you’d rather they were gone.

Will the machine fit through my gate?

It’s 35 inches wide, so a standard 36-inch gate clears it — provided there’s room to turn once through. Send a photo of the gate along with the stump and we’ll tell you before we roll out.

Do you remove trees?

No. We grind stumps, and that’s all we do. If your tree is still standing you’ll want a tree service first — then call us for what’s left.

Ready for a Number?

Send a photo of the stump with a tape measure across the root ball. Firm written quote back within two hours during business hours.
